Step 1: Brown the Beef

In a large pot over medium heat, add 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil. Once heated, add in 1 pound of ground beef and cook until browned. Drain any excess fat.

Step 2: Sauté the Aromatics

Add 1 diced small onion and 1 tablespoon minced garlic to the pot with the beef and sauté until the onion is translucent.

Step 3: Add the Chili Seasonings

Add in 1 tablespoon dark chili powder, 1 tablespoon chili powder, and 1 jar (12 ounces) of chili sauce. Stir until combined.

Substitutions and Variations

Now, while I believe that Clyde’s Famous Chili Recipe is unbeatable, there are a few substitutions and variations you can make to spice things up in the kitchen.

Firstly, if beef isn’t your thing or if you’re trying to cut down on red meat, you can substitute the ground beef for ground turkey or chicken. While this may change the flavor slightly, it’s still sure to pack a punch with that signature chili powder.

For those who like things extra spicy, feel free to add some diced jalapeños or even hot sauce to make this dish even hotter. On the other hand, if heat isn’t your forte, you can reduce the amount of chili powder and chili beans used.

If you’re looking for a vegetarian option, leave out the ground beef altogether and add in more beans such as black beans or kidney beans. You’ll still have the same great taste of chili with a meatless twist.

To make this recipe healthier, use low-sodium beans and broth, as well as leaner cuts of meat.

Finally, if you’re feeling adventurous and want to give this recipe your own spin while still keeping that saloon-style taste, try experimenting with different types of meat such as bison or venison. You never know what delicious concoction you’ll come up with!

Remember, cooking is all about experimenting and finding what works for you. Don’t be afraid to try new things and put your own spin on Clyde’s Famous Chili Recipe.

Serving and Pairing

Once you’ve got a steaming pot of Clyde’s Famous Chili ready, the question is: what to eat it with? This award-winning chili recipe has a rich, hearty flavor that can be paired with many different accompaniments. Here are some suggestions that will elevate your dining experience:

– Cornbread: Sweet and crumbly cornbread is the perfect side dish to soak up all that delicious chili. It adds an extra layer of texture and sweetness to the meal.

– Rice: A scoop of fluffy white rice is another classic pairing with chili. It acts as a neutral base that balances out the spicy flavors and adds substance.

– Nachos: If you’re looking for a more unconventional approach, try ladling the chili over a pile of nacho chips. The salty crunch of the chips pairs perfectly with the meaty, savory chili.

– Baked Potato: One hearty carb meets another – this combo is perfect for cold winter days. Simply baked potatoes topped generously with hot chili and melted cheddar cheese.

As for beverages, any beer lover will feel at home enjoying Clyde’s World Famous Chili with a cold mug of lager or ale. On the other hand, those who prefer a non-alcoholic option may want to try serving it with iced tea (sweet or unsweetened), which provides a refreshing balance to the spicy flavors.

And finally, if you’re cooking it for a crowd, consider setting out toppings such as shredded cheese, sour cream or diced onions on your kitchen island for guests to add to their chili according to their liking.

Whichever way you enjoy eating it, Clyde’s Famous Chili recipe serves six to eight people making this saloon-style chili perfect in these Winter months!

Make-Ahead, Storing and Reheating

Let me tell you, folks, this Clyde’s Famous Chili Recipe is a dish that can be cooked ahead of time and stored for later consumption. It can also be reheated easily to its original hot saloon-style freshness. I generally prefer to cook a large amount of chili recipe and then store it in my pantry target, ready to be heated up anytime. Trust me, the flavors only intensify and become better after they get a chance to meld together.

To store your famous Clyde’s chili recipe, wait until the chili has cooled down to room temperature first- never store hot chili in the fridge! Pour it into an airtight container, seal it and label it using clear tape or marker with the date when the chili was made. The shelf life of this recipe is around four days. When you are ready to heat it up again, use a microwave or stovetop pot and ensure that it reaches the recommended safe temperature before consuming.

If you want to freeze your award-winning chili for much longer storage life (up to three months), let it cool down and then transfer into portion-sized freezer bags with a firm seal. Remember not to overfill your bags since liquid usually expands when frozen. Defrost properly by moving them into the fridge from the freezer one day before reheating using a microwave or slow cooker.

Now about reheating! Use low heat during reheating either on a stove or microwave and keep stirring often to make sure that there is no clumping or burning. You might need to add some liquid (broth or water) if it becomes too thick on reheating. Once done, garnish it with your favorite toppings like cheese or avocado and enjoy!

Overall, storing, freezing, and reheating Clyde’s Famous Chili Recipe is simple and efficient- fitting perfectly into any busy schedule- so you can always have a world-famous meal on hand whenever you crave it!

Tips for Perfect Results

Now, let me share some tips for achieving the perfect bowl of Clyde’s Famous Chili every single time. Trust me, these tricks will elevate your chili game to a whole new level.

Firstly, I highly recommend using dark chili powder instead of regular chili powder in this recipe. The dark chili powder adds a richer flavor and deeper color to the dish. It makes all the difference!

Secondly, make sure to use fresh garlic instead of pre-minced garlic from a jar. Fresh garlic has a stronger flavor and aroma that will enhance the overall taste of your chili.

Another tip is to use Worcestershire sauce to give your chili a tangy and slightly sweet kick. Just a splash of it can elevate the flavors of the dish significantly.

If you want to turn up the heat, try adding more chili sauce or red pepper flakes to your liking.

For best results, buy high-quality ingredients such as grass-fed ground beef and organic canned chili beans. Trust me; it’s worth it.

Lastly, simmer the chili for at least an hour, if not longer. Letting it cook slowly over low heat allows all of the flavors to marry together beautifully.

Clyde's Famous Chili

Clyde’s Famous Chili Recipe

From the Washington, DC restaurant's website. My husband loves chili and this is one of his favorites. On the website, this is described as: Sweet and slightly hot, this saloon-style Chili has been a staple on Clyde's menu for over 30 years. Liz Taylor would order it by the gallon and have it shipped to her house! Since we no longer offer our chili in the can at Britches clothing store, it's only fair that we give you the recipe that has been top secret for many years. *Note: the light chili powders have more of the hot seeds or flakes ground with the pods. By using more of the dark chili powder, our chili is a little sweeter.

  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 lb small onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 (25 ounce) can chili beans
  • 1 (12 ounce) jar chili sauce
  • 2 tablespoons light chili powder
  • 1/4 cup dark chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

  • In a heavy bottomed pot, saute the onion and garlic in the vegetable oil until golden brown.
  • Add the beef to the onions and cook until it is about medium rare. Do not stir the beef around too much-you want to have large clumps of beef in the finished chili.
  • Add the rest of the ingredients and stir until just blended. (It may seem like a lot of chili powder but that's why they call it chili!).
  • Cook the chili over medium heat for about 10 minutes, just until the meat is fully cooked. Don't overcook it!
  • Serve with ice cold beer and condiments like sharp cheddar cheese, sour cream, and minced onions.
