– Swap out the broccoli for another veggie: Don’t limit yourself to just broccoli – this recipe works well with a variety of other veggies too! Try using cauliflower, brussels sprouts, or even asparagus instead.

– Adjust the heat level: If you love spice, consider adding more red chili pepper flakes or chili garlic sauce to up the heat. Alternatively, if you’re sensitive to spicy foods, you can reduce the amount of chili garlic sauce or omit the red chili flakes altogether.

– Change up the protein: While this recipe features broccoli as the star ingredient, feel free to add in your protein of choice. Shrimp, sliced chicken breast or flank steak would all be fantastic options!

– Make it vegan: To make this recipe vegan-friendly, simply swap out the honey in the garlic sauce for a vegan-friendly sweetener like agave nectar or maple syrup.

– Try different oils: While olive oil works well in this recipe, you can also experiment with other oils to change things up. Sesame oil would add a nice nutty flavor while chili oil would give it an extra kick.

Serving and Pairing

After preparing this scrumptious chili garlic broccoli recipe, I like to serve it as a main dish or side dish. It goes well with steamed white rice or quinoa, making it a complete meal rich in protein and essential minerals. Alternatively, you can add some sweetness to your taste buds by pairing it with sliced avocado or cherry tomatoes. A glass of white wine also pairs perfectly with this dish, especially a chilled chardonnay or sauvignon blanc for its bright acidity.

If you prefer to have it as a side dish, then you can serve it alongside seared salmon, grilled chicken or steak. The sweetness of the meat complements the savory and spicy flavors of this broccoli recipe. I also love adding some roasted sweet potatoes on the side for an additional texture and flavor. At the same time, Ottolenghi grilled purple sprouting broccoli can be a perfect serving alternative for those looking to add an extraordinary visual appeal.

A little tip from me is that if you plan to serve this recipe at a party or gathering, consider doubling the batch as it’s always in demand! In case you have any leftovers stored in the fridge, I suggest reheating them in a skillet on medium-high heat for 5-7 minutes to restore their crispiness and crunchiness.

This chili garlic broccoli recipe is versatile enough to be paired with any meal of your choice while still bringing out its bold flavors and aromas. So pick your favorite option and indulge in this mouth-watering recipe!

Make-Ahead, Storing and Reheating

If you’re a busy person and want to plan your day ahead, the Chili Garlic Broccoli Recipe is perfect for you. Making it a few days before the event is possible since this recipe is a make-ahead type of dish.

To make it ahead of time, just prepare the broccoli florets and the chili garlic sauce as instructed in the recipe how-to section. Instead of roasting them, store them separately in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

When ready to serve, preheat your oven and let the broccoli come to room temperature while waiting. Once heated, place the broccoli mixture on a sheet pan and roast them in the oven for additional crunchiness while continuing to coat everything with garlic essence.

If you have leftovers that need storing, transfer them into an airtight container and refrigerate them promptly. The Chili Garlic Broccoli dish can last in the fridge for up to 4 days without significant loss of quality.

To reheat, you can use either a microwave or an oven where baking is preferred if you want to maintain its crispy texture. Reheat at 375°F (190°C) for 8-10 minutes or until fully heated through.

A useful tip to remember when reheating this recipe is that adding some additional sauce will help re-moisten the vegetables that may have lost their moisture over time. By doing so, it’ll not only add extra flavors but also help preserve their tenderness and delectable flavor.

Tips for Perfect Results

To ensure that your chili garlic broccoli is a success, there are a few tips to keep in mind.

Firstly, when roasting the broccoli, make sure to cut it into evenly-sized florets. This will allow for even cooking and prevent smaller pieces from burning while larger ones remain undercooked.

Secondly, preheat your oven to ensure that it reaches the correct temperature. This will prevent the broccoli from steaming and instead give it that delicious roasted flavor and crispy texture.

When making the chili garlic sauce, don’t be afraid to experiment with the amount of red chili pepper or chili garlic sauce you add. If you want it spicier, add a bit more; if you prefer a milder flavor, use less.

To avoid overpowering the dish with too much seasoning, season with salt and pepper in moderation as the chili garlic sauce already adds plenty of flavor.

Finally, avoid overcrowding the skillet when stir-frying. If the pan is too crowded, the broccoli may become mushy instead of crunchy. Cook it in multiple batches if necessary.

By following these simple tips, you can achieve perfectly cooked and flavorful chili garlic broccoli every time!

She used Western broccoli because Kai-lan was usually pretty expensive where we were living. The measurements are estimates as she would do it by the look of it.
